Education & Public Programs

Ava Locks’ approach to programming leverages existing organizational resources and relationships to engage the community through a wide array of educational offerings. Her practice focuses on developing accessible and equitable programs that demystify the artistic process through hands-on experiences that reach diverse and multi-generational audiences.

During her recent engagement with The Watermill Center, an artist residency program based in Water Mill, NY, Locks developed an extensive array of programming that took full use of The Center’s rotating roster of international artists-in-residence, extensive art collection, and existing ties with the community.

The resulting programs increased opportunities for disabled and neurodivergent audiences, empowered high-school students to use art as a tool for social change, engaged the community through new and creative avenues, established new partnerships, and provided artists with the tools to share their practices with the public in an engaging format.
